Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o, born October 10, 1943, is a famous Kenyan politician and author who is the current Governor of Kisumu County. Nyong’o is a one-time Secretary-General of Orange Democratic Movement(ODM), Edwin Sifuna is the present Secretary-General.

Prof Nyong’o has only made a impact Kenya but Mexico City, where he was teaching at the time of his daughter Lupita Nyong’o’s birth. He was the acting party leader of ODM from March 11, 2023 until late May when party leader, Raila Odinga was in the United States.

Moreoer, Prof Nyong’o was elected in the December 2007 to the National Assembly of Kenya parliamentary election to represents Kisumu Rural Constituency. He was the Minister for Medical Services and earlier the Minister for Planning and National Development. From 2013 to 2017, he served as the Senator of Kisumu.

Prof Nyong’o was born on October 10, 1943,in Ratta, Kisumu, Kenya. He mother was Dorcas Awino Nyong’o who sadly passed away 2019. Nyong’o finished his undergraduate studies at Uganda’s Makerere University, where he was awarded a first class honours degree in political science. After college he worked as Guild president of the same University in 1969/70.

Thereafter, Prof Nyong’o proceeded to his graduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Chicago, USA where he obtained a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in political science in 1977.

Rise to Fame

Prof Nyong’o rise to fame started 1992, when he was first elected to parliament. From 1998 to 2002, he served as a nominated MP. Nyong’o served as the Minister for Planning and National Development from 1998 to 2002, and as the Minister for Medical Services from 2008 to 2013. Nyong’o is love by many for his contribution to the society.
